What has happened to Nick Clegg? He seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth, even his social media accounts are quiet. Could it be that he is hiding in a darkened room hanging his head in shame after lying about student tuition fees.

I fear it will be a long time before he regains any credibility.

Where Is The Sense In Bailing Out Ireland

Can somebody please explain to me why we are bailing Ireland out of their self inflicted mire?

As a country we are broke, we are making massive cuts to our police, education, hospitals, public services and armed forces. Cuts to the welfare budget, (some of which are welcome).

Gas prices are going up, shortly to be followed by Electricity, wages are going down in real terms, and yet here we are bailing out the Irish to the tune of £7 billion.

Why? The argument is that we carry out a massive amount of trade with Ireland and that British business will be seriously damaged by the failure of the banking system.

Given the austerity measures that are to be imposed in Ireland, trade with us is bound to be affected, does this still make our investment worthwhile?

What interest rate are we charging, what guarantees do we have that they will repay, also what many people do not realise is that RBS, owned by you and I are heavily into the Irish banks. So the potential loss for us is much greater.

Policies Should Be Based On Research

The Conservatives have pledged that anyone who is cautioned or convicted of benefit fraud three times will have their payments stopped for up to three years.

Problem is no one has ever been cautioned or convicted three times. Worse still Theresa May who lest you need reminding is Shadow Work and Pensions secretary didn’t even know.

Just another example of headline grabbing by the Tories with no substance behind it. And these people want to run the country, the can’t even check out a few facts. So what truth is their behind the other “facts” they give out?

Hot on the heels of the revelations that John Bercows’ wifes was heavily into binge drinking and casual sex whilst in her twenties comes news of John Bercows guide to understanding women allegedly written by him and published in a magazine for young Tories in 1986. One of his tips was on luring drunk women, presumably including your wife John. He also suggested that “… women will settle for anything that breathes and has a credit card, including you John.

Are these type of revelations the sort of thing we expect from The Speaker of the House?

Is this the start of a new scandal, instead of Expenses – gate we have sex – gate and will it be serialised in the Sunday Sport?

Lending to be tightened

The FSA is set to announce that in future loans will only be given to those people who can afford to pay them back. It is absolutely terrifying to think that the so called brains within our financial services industry have only just realised this common sense approach is the only way to operate.

Ms Smith still doesn’t get it does she. Her apology to the house reminded me of an 8 year being forced to apologise by his or her parent. What made it worse was her saying that she felt sorry for members of her constituency because of the time the enquiry had taken. Surely she realises that she is part of the cause of the inquiry.

MP’s Threaten to Reject Expenses Report

It is expected that many of the MP’s who will today have received letters asking them to pay back or properly justify their expenses claims will reject the report.

It has been suggested that some of them may face bills for six figure sums and will pursue the matter through the courts.

No doubt they will try and claim legal fees on expenses.

If there are cases of claims running into six figures the MP’s concerned should resign now.

I would also hope that a full list of offending MP’s who have received letters will be published for all to see. The voting public need to know before the next election if the person they plan to vote for is whiter than white, guilty of administration errors or on the make.

If the political parties are serious in saying that they want a totally transparent system it needs to start now.

The money that this will raise will cover what we are spending in just over a month, so it really is a drop in the ocean.

Knowing Mr Browns record on selling off public assets these will be grossly undervalued and sell for nothing.

Expenses-gate and Sell Offs

Gordon Brown is apparently to announce tomorrow that the Government will sell off £16 bn of assets, Tomorrow is also the day that 100 MP’s will receive letters telling them to either payback some of the money they have claimed on expenses or justify the claim. I wonder which piece of news is meant to hide which?

Expensesgate Two

On Monday upto 100 MP’s will receive letters from auditors asking them to e ither pay back monies claimed on expenses or justify them.

With a Tory victory in the next General Election looking more and more likely, you can bet Cameron is hoping and praying that none of the letters are to members of his party. I wouldn’t hold your breath Dave.

I wonder now if any of the party leaders wished they had raised the issue of expenses at their respective conferences or were they just hoping it had gone away
